Wedding photographer in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is two wedding cities in one. Downtown sits on Tampa Bay, with a walkable waterfront, museums, and historic hotels. Twenty minutes west are the Gulf beaches, with an open horizon and sunsets over the water. Many couples use both in a single day, and the plan for photos and film depends on which side your wedding is on.

As a wedding photographer and videographer in St. Petersburg, we build the timeline around that geography, so that travel between locations costs you minutes, not the best light of the day.

Downtown St. Pete is compact, which is a gift for wedding coverage. The Vinoy, the pink 1925 hotel on the waterfront, the Museum of Fine Arts on Beach Drive, and the banyan trees in the parks along the bay are all within a short walk of each other. A couple can get ready, see each other for the first time, and take portraits in three different settings without getting into a car.

Sunken Gardens is a different world: a century-old garden below street level, green and shaded even at midday. It photographs well in almost any weather, but the paths are narrow, so we plan family photos carefully and keep the group moving.

For an urban look, the Central Arts District and the EDGE District offer murals, brick, and converted spaces such as NOVA 535 and Station House. These work especially well for evening portraits when the street lights come on.

On the Gulf side, The Don CeSar, the pink palace on St. Pete Beach, is the best-known wedding address in the area. Further south, Pass-a-Grille is quieter and more old Florida, and Fort De Soto Park has long, wide beaches with very little behind you except sand and water.

Each of these places has its own rules about timing, access, and where a camera crew can stand. We ask about them before the wedding, not during it.

The most useful thing to know about St. Petersburg is which way your venue faces.

Downtown faces east across Tampa Bay. The sun rises over the water there and sets behind the city. In the late afternoon the waterfront sits in soft, even shade from the buildings, which is flattering for portraits, but there is no sunset over the water. The Gulf beaches face west. That is where the sun goes down into the horizon, and where the last half hour of the day gives the warm light most couples have in mind.

If your ceremony and reception are downtown and you want that Gulf sunset, we can plan a short portrait session at the beach, about 20 to 25 minutes away, or schedule it for another day. If your wedding is on the beach, we plan the ceremony time backwards from sunset: about 5:35 pm in December, about 8:30 pm in late June.

Beach weddings need a few practical decisions. Wind is constant, so we use microphones that handle it and suggest where to place the ceremony for clean sound. White sand reflects a lot of light, which is beautiful in the evening and harsh at noon. Summer afternoons bring short storms from June through September, so a covered backup close by matters more here than anywhere else.

St. Pete is called the Sunshine City for a reason, and most days cooperate. We still plan for the ones that do not.

We photograph and film St. Petersburg weddings as one crew. That matters most in the tight moments: a first look in a hotel courtyard, a ceremony on the sand with guests on three sides, a sparkler exit on a narrow street. Two separate teams would be in each other's frame. We decide in advance who stands where.

During the ceremony one camera stays wide and steady for the full record, while another follows faces: the look when the doors open, a parent in the front row, hands during the rings. Vows and speeches are recorded with dedicated microphones, so your film has clear voices, not wind and room noise.

After the wedding, video packages with a teaser or trailer deliver it within two days, and photo collections include a preview within 48 hours.
